The origin of this name dates back to the time when many farmhouses in South Tyrol had a smoke box in the chimney. The sausages were hung and stored there for drying and preservation. As they hung down like roots from the fireplace for smoking purposes, they earned the name „Kaminwurzen“ (fireplace roots) which is still the name used today.
