Our History
More than 50 years of history
The adventure of the Larcher family began in the 1960s, at the Mendola Pass in Trentino Alto Adige, and has been going on since 1984 in the valley of Termeno, on the Wine Route.
The beginning of an adventure
The company was founded in the 60s by Roberto Larcher, who at that time had started working as a trader and sold food products, especially cheese and cold cuts.
After a few years, Roberto, following the impulse of the priest of the village, started the production of speck on the Mendola Pass. At the beginning he produced in very limited quantities of about 50 pieces per week, but the demand was great and therefore the production increased constantly.
About 20 years after the production of the first Speck, Roberto produced about 800 speck per week.

The second generation and the relocation to Tramin an der Weinstraße
The two sons Rolando and Ivo, who had helped out from an early age, had become young adults and were an essential part of the company. As there was no more room to grow with the company, together 1984 they decided it was time to find a new place.
At that Time they were 7 in the company. oberto with his two sons Rolando and
Ivo and 3 workers in production, while his mother Rosa took care of the office. A complete change of workplace followed in a modern and spacious building, and soon the company grew and production increased.
In 1996 the company was expanded and the number of
employees increased to about 15 people.

another milestone in Mendelspeck's history
The purchase of the building in San Lugano makes the company take a big step forward.
As the modern production hall is located over 1000 metres above sea level, the air for curing the speck is even better and less energy is required to maintain a constant temperature in the curing cells.
